Our charter to preserve our historic assets includes educating ourselves and the town on those historic assets. It is also our responsibility to know the condition of those assets as time progresses.
This program supports both of these goals by focusing on a historic place each month. We begin with the oldest and continue down the list of our many historic assets. A new list has been added to the right sidebar of our blog titled ‘HISTORIC PLACE OF THE MONTH‘ and it lists a historic asset for each month of the year. If we have the time and resources, we will publish a posting on the historic place that will present the history of that asset and will include the photos that we currently have in the Inventory Records of our Local Register of Historic Places. This will be done sometime around the beginning of the month.
To add interest to the program, we invite the photographers of Harvard to submit photos of each historic asset. We will contact the owners of the chosen historic place to inform them of the event. Also, we ask the photographers to take their photos only from the public ways. In presenting the photos, the photographers will be credited for their work and the Commission will gain some wonderful additions to its Photo Archive of the town’s assets as well as a better understanding and appreciation of our historic gems.
Following is the list of Historic Place of the Month for each month of the year. A page is dedicated to each historic asset. Those listed in RED are available. Those in BLACK will be published just prior to the assigned month. Please visit those pages that have been published by clicking on the entry.
